Background and Experience

A North Shore native, Betsy graduated from Deerfield High School and attended Indiana University, where she received a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education (K–9th grade) and Special Education (Pre-K through age 21). She later earned an English as a Second Language certificate from Loyola University. Betsy spent the majority of her classroom teaching career at North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, working in both the resource and general education settings. She left the school environment in 2015 to be home with her young children.

Throughout the last 15+ years, Betsy has provided one-on-one tutoring sessions to students of all ages. Through working with older students, she identified a strong need for skill development in a range of Executive Function (EF) skills, including understanding assignment expectations, breaking down larger assignments into manageable pieces, planning and organizing written work, and preparing for tests. Betsy has developed strategies to equip students—especially those diagnosed with an anxiety disorder or ADHD—with the EF skills needed to succeed throughout their educational careers. By modeling techniques and providing tailored support in real time, these strategies align with students’ immediate academic needs, ensuring consistent practice and reinforcement.

Today, Betsy works with students ranging from middle school through college to develop tools for lifelong success. She provides weekly or as-needed coaching through engaging, highly individualized sessions and works closely with families and students’ teams to ensure consistent support across learning environments. Additionally, she offers text check-ins and on-demand support for older students. Sessions leave students feeling prepared, in control, and clear on their plan for moving forward. Betsy’s upbeat approach fosters trust, and students see her as both a mentor and an advocate.
