Background and Experience
A North Shore native, Betsy graduated from Deerfield High School and attended Indiana University, where she earned a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education (K–9th grade) and Special Education (Pre-K through age 21). She later completed an English as a Second Language certificate from Loyola University. Betsy spent the majority of her classroom teaching career at North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, working in both resource and general education settings, before stepping away in 2015 to be home with her young children.
Over the past 15+ years, Betsy has provided one-on-one tutoring to students of all ages. Through her work with older students, she identified a strong need for Executive Function (EF) skill development, including understanding assignment expectations, breaking larger tasks into manageable steps, organizing written work, and preparing for tests. She has since developed strategies to equip students, especially those with anxiety or ADHD, with the EF skills needed to succeed throughout their academic careers.
Today, Betsy works with students from middle school through college, offering weekly or as-needed coaching through engaging, highly individualized sessions. She works closely with families and student teams to ensure consistent support across learning environments and offers text check-ins and on-demand support for older students. Her sessions leave students feeling prepared, in control, and clear on next steps. With an upbeat approach that fosters genuine trust, students see Betsy as both a mentor and an advocate.
